Chelsea Arches Mews, London

Quietly situated on one of Chelsea’s few gated private streets, this project involved a complete structural reconfiguration, extension, and refurbishment of a three-storey Mews townhouse - the first home for a young couple. The intervention retained only the external walls and floor structures, with the interior entirely reimagined to create a contemporary, characterful home.

NGA worked closely with the clients to develop a brief that balanced refinement with playfulness. Arched doorways, dark timber and brass detailing, and moments of bold materiality — including dramatic marbles and luxurious fabrics — create a rich and tactile language throughout.

At the heart of the house is a bespoke kitchen island, crafted in collaboration with trusted makers, alongside a master suite centred on a dressing room with fabric-inlay doors and drawers, delivering a sense of calm and comfort.

NGA provided full architectural and interior design services, as well as acting as contract administrator and quantity surveyor. A carefully assembled team of craftspeople brought to life a series of tailored elements, including custom joinery and built-in seating.

The finished home offers a quiet sense of luxury, combining expressive materials with a warm and inviting atmosphere in the heart of Chelsea.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

Jack, our client for our Chelsea Arches Mews House

“Working with Nancy and her team on our Mews house in Chelsea was a brilliant experience. We were introduced to Nancy after seeing another house her practice had completed for a developer on the same road, which we loved but sadly missed out on at the bidding stage.

As our first home together, we really needed someone who was open to our ideas and could guide us through the entire process. Nancy and her team came up with a really fun and unique design, covering both the architecture and the interiors, including the lighting scheme. They took the time to fully understand how we live and what our style and taste are, bringing clever ideas and thoughtful architectural details like the curves and arches that made all the difference and made the house feel much more spacious.

We are especially pleased with the gorgeous kitchen, which is a real focal point in our open-plan ground floor and works so well when we entertain.

Nancy and her team managed every stage of the project – from early designs and planning/building control permissions to project managing the builders – making the whole process feel smooth and well-organised. The project came in on time and on budget, and we are absolutely delighted with the end result, which has been finished to a really high standard.”
